The Weave

Technique is the truth of the cloth

Before you buy, know how the cloth is made. Fabric, weave, and zari are stated on every saree.

Kadwa

Each motif is woven independently with discontinuous weft — denser, more dimensional, and more time on the loom.

Fekwa

Extra weft floats across the fabric and is later cut — faster than kadwa, with a different hand and reverse.

Tanchoi

A silk-on-silk technique with intricate figured fields, often lighter than heavy bridal kadhua jaals.

Shikargah

Hunting scenes — animals, foliage, and narrative motifs — a classic Banarasi pictorial vocabulary.

Jangla

Continuous vine and floral networks across the field — often seen on organza and lighter silks.

Butidar

Scattered booti motifs across the body, balanced by a richer border and pallu.
